What can the users learn about a number that is calling them?
Users can find the reviews of the phone number written by other users, the interest in the phone number in the last month and, if possible, its location (for landlines). Sometimes, there are no reviews for a given phone number. If, however, the page has e.g. a thousand views, it shows that it is most likely an annoying caller.
A recent Commsrisk article referenced ‘Operation Chakra’, a series of raids by the Indian police on locations associated with cybercrime including scam call centers that defraud foreigners. But does Indian law enforcement follow up arrests by prosecuting the criminals? That is the question asked by well-known YouTube…

Supposed Vodafone call centre offering 40% discount on monthly bill. Sends a code to your phone looking for it which will give them access to your account. Hung up when I didn't provide the code.
Indian accent caller

The caller using this number purported to be a Vodafone representative offering a discount on my monthly bill until I asked how would I know they are employed by Vodafone. They then suggested that they would send an official Vodafone text to verify. Caller hung up. No text.
I phoned number back several times. This is not a Vodafone number.

Pretending to be Vodafone offering 40% discount on your bill and free phone. They ask you to log into your account and then order a phone. It arrives to your home and when you say you don’t order it, they ask you to post it to a registered address. Steal the phone as a result. Your account foots the bill
